Amid a food shortage in World War II, Pietro Ferrero managed to acquire a limited supply of chocolate. Determined to make his chocolate last longer, he mixed the chocolate with hazelnuts, which grew plentifully in Italy. He called it “Supercrema” and sold it to struggling families. In the 1960s, the name was changed to Nutella, a food we all know and love.
